Hello everyone and welcome to another installment of Monstermaster13’s character profiles - i’m your host Monstermaster13.  Last time we took a look at Dracula, who was inspired by the historical figure Vlad Tepes/Vlad The Impaler,  so to go with the theme of killers...it's time that I talked about another serial killer.

Since I will be focussing on horror throughout September and October as part of the Halloween countdown.   I thought that tonight would be a good time to talk about  a certain famous serial killer and no he’s not a real person,   he isn’t Freddy,   Jason,  Michael Myers, Leatherface or Jigsaw.  

His name is Dexter Morgan and he is the title character from the hit series Dexter,  Dexter the tv series is based heavily on the books ‘Dexter’  ‘Dexter In The Dark’  ‘Darkly Dreaming Dexter’  ‘Dexter By Design’ ‘Dexter Is Delicious’ and ‘Double Dexter’.  

He is a rather interesting character and lives a double-life  By day he works as a forensic  blood spatter analyst,   and by night he is a killer who goes after other serial killers,    he may suffer from a schizoid personality disorder but he is genuinely more human than most killers tend to be.    He doesn’t harm others,  he does it to control his dark side also known as the ‘Dark Passenger’.  

He also does it as part of his job and is very protective of the ones he loves,   which is in a way kind of like me.   I rarely ever harm people I like and I don’t usually go after them unless it’s apart of my job as the Hessian or as Chris the alpha Walken.    He is by far,  the most complex character I have ever talked about.

Because unlike most of the monsters and killers i’ve talked about -  he isn’t evil,  or vicious and isn’t doing it for sick kicks -   he does what he does as a part of his job,  and he only goes after other killers or wrongdoers.    And yes,  he feels emotionally seperated from the rest of humanity but he isn’t an entirely emotionless killing machine,  as he does care for his family and is very loyal.

I think the most interesting aspect is the whole ‘Dark Passenger’  side that he  has, many of the other killers in the show have this as well.    The ‘Dark Passenger’  side is what you could say is the beast within.    His one has to be satisfied nearly monthly,  that is if frequent kills aren’t made in-between,   think of it as like  hunger or bloodlust -  which is why he goes to search for other serial killers to track them down and put them on his table.

He also has numerous interesting enemies including the most infamous -  Arthur ‘Trinity’ Mitchell played by John Lithgow.   This isn’t the only time Lithgow has played a villain,  he was a villain in The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai,   Ricochet,   Cliffhanger,  and also as the voice of Lord Farquaad in the first film of the Shrek franchise.    I bet most of you after seeing him in this are probably never going to think of Lord Farquaad or Dick Solomon the exact same way.     Trinity is an interesting antagonist as his methods for killing his victims are not only horrifying but also give us insight into his backstory and character.

Of course that makes him more than a worthy match for Dexter.   And the Dexter/Trinity storyarc is one of the most interesting storylines in the history of television,  I think they did a great job with it.

While he may not be Freddy,  Jason,  Chucky,  Patrick Bateman,   Jigsaw or Michael Myers - Dexter sure is an unique and brilliantly written character and the acting in the show really sells it,   because Michael C. Hall puts on a flawless performance.

Plus the writers gave him a lot of character development and that’s what helps make him such an interesting character.     If you’re looking for a different kind of killer,   then Dexter Morgan - is the man for the job.
