Vamp Movies

Before we start,  i'd like to reassure all of my followers that this movie list does NOT have Twilight on it,  after all this is a good VAMPIRE movie list and there is no room for sparkly pricks.

1.  Bram Stoker's Dracula.  I am in love with this movie,  it is scary and eerie but also beautifully filmed,  written and directed by Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola.   Gary Oldman proves once again why he is a man of many faces as he plays the titular count, in all his different forms including as an old vampire,  a young vampire prince,  mist, a grotesquely terrifying bat-creature,  rats,  and an impressive wolf creature.   Not to mention the score and soundtrack are beautiful and haunting.   I would be remiss if I forgot to mention the ever so enchanting theme song Love Song For A Vampire by Annie Lennox.  *sings* Come into these arms again,  and lay your body down. The rhythm of this trembling heart -  is beating like a drum.  It beats for you,  it bleeds for you -  it knows not how it sounds.  For it is the drum of drums,  it is the song of songs.  Once I had the rarest rose,  that ever deigned to bloom -  cruel winter chilled the bud, and stole my flower too soon,  oh loneliness,  oh hopelessness,  to search the ends of time,  for there is in the all world no greater love than mine.   *stops* Plus,  I like how they based it off the original story and how they added in some interesting parts like the Count's backstory,  and the whole reincarnation aspect with Mina being a reincarnation of his late wife.  Amazing special fx as well.  Plus Anthony Hopkins steals the show as Abraham Van Helsing,  as does Tom Waitts as Renfield.  Fun fact: Gary Oldman learned to speak Romanian for this movie.  Also did you know that Oldman kept one of the coffins from the movie and used it to scare guests at a party.  Also this movie is the inspiration for the anime Hellsing.
2.  Fright Night - 1985.   I remember when I first saw this movie,  it was mentioned a long while back in September of 2010 in an issue of Skywatch (a TV Guide magazine for Sky subscribers) ,   the movie channel MGM was doing a 'Vampire movie' marathon with this movie,  Scream Blackula Scream,  and Once Bitten.  I remember seeing a photo of Amy in her vampire form on the page that mentioned the aforementioned marathon.  After seeing both this and Once Bitten,  I fell in love with vampire movies of the 80's and 90's as well as with 80's and 90's horror in general.   The cast is brilliant.  Especially Chris Sarandon as Jerry.   Like with Bram Stoker's Dracula,  this movie has both a haunting score and a great theme song -  an incredibly hypnotic one at that.  *sings*  Your life is the same,  day after day,  everything that you do -  you do the same old way,  I could show you the world -  in a different light.  Keep your heart to yourself, give your soul to the night.  Come to meeeee,  when you're lonely -  come to meeee when you need something new,   come to meeee - when you're restless -  because i've got something just for you...just for you.   *stops*  If you love being scared,  you will love Fright Night.   What can I say except...welcome to Fright Night,  for real.
3.  From Dusk Till Dawn.  From the combined teamwork of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes one of the most epic vampire movies ever released.  This movie is terrifying,  awesome,  spectacular and badass,  with amazing sfx and an unpredictable plot,  you think it's going to be a straight-forward Tarantino-esque crime movie but nope - it's pure grade A vampiric badassery.   The Gecko Brothers are brilliantly played by George Clooney and Quentin himself respectively but what really sells this movie are the performances,  the sfx and of course the vampires.  Also worth noting is that Cheech Marin is in this movie,  as is legendary makeup artist Tom Savini -  who plays the best character ever -  Sex Machine,  and Danny 'Machete' Trejo.  Yep,  Machete is in this and he becomes a vampire.   Oops, I forgot someone.  To all you guys out there,   I think it's time you said hello to the reason why you should watch this....and that reason has a name,  she is called Salma Hayek.  She dances up a sexy storm in this movie and she comes across as not only menacing but alluring as well.  Plus what I find particularly impressive is the scene with the snake,  especially since in real life Salma is afraid of snakes and underwent hypnosis induced training to get over her fear.   The MPAA was also negotiated around easily thanks to the blood being green (no, it's not 'monster blood' like in a certain Goosebumps book and episode),  you see - the MPAA has no problem with blood,  they just don't like it being the color red.  If you're on the lookout for a movie with some bite to it as well as plenty of action,  head on down to the Titty Twister.   PS: Let's see a show of hands...who wants to see a movie where Machete teams up with Sex Machine?  *every hand in the world goes up* I thought so.
4.  Dracula: Dead And Loving It.   Who doesn't love Mel Brooks?  The answer: No one.  Mel Brooks is a comedy genius who understands how parody and satire work.  And this time he decided to bring his own comedic chops into the world of horror movies for the second time (the first being of course Young Frankenstein) with this gem -  Dracula: Dead And Loving It.   This movie is so hillarious and so underrated.  It's got so many funny lines and gags,  plus I like how it parodies both the 1931 Dracula and the 1992 one at the same time,   there are lots of hilarious scenes in it as well.  Like the scenes with Van Helsing (played by Mel Brooks himself),  every Renfield moment (including the raspberry muffin scene),   the 'Daymare' Dracula has about burning up in the sun,   the exchange behind Drac and Van Helsing over who will get the last word,  the scenes of Dracula using his powers and the seduction scene with the brides ("Wrong me, wrong me,  wrong my brains out!").   This movie had me laughing all the way through.
5.  The Lost Boys.  This movie is yet another reason why I personally believe the 80's was THE era for both horror movies and horror comedies.  I first heard of this movie from the 'Big Wolf On Campus' episode Blaim It On Haim which guest starred the late Corey Haim, and since I first saw it I instantly knew I had to put it on this list.   Plus gotta love that theme song People Are Strange.  *sings* People are strange,  when you're a stranger,   faces look ugly when you're alone.   Women seem wicked,  when you're unwanted,  when you're strange -  faces come out of the rain,  when you're strange -  no one remembers your name,  when you're strange,  when you're strange...when you're straaange.
6.  The Addiction. This is an unique and philosophical vampire film that is extremely intelligent and thought provoking.  I like how this movie deals with the topic of vampirism and describe it in a way akin to drug addiction.   Abel Ferrara is a master when it comes to smart and philosophical movies like this.   Not to mention Walken is in it.
7. Once Bitten.  Ah,  Jim Carrey!  Not only one of my favorite comedians but also one of my favorite actors of all time.  This was one of his very first movies,  and it's one i've been wanting to talk about for a long time.  This is one of those rare vampire movies where the vampire not only doesn't go for the neck but also a vampire who ages.  This movie is fun and it is definitely worth a watch,  the vampiress in this movie is hot and the soundtrack has some insanely catchy tunes on it,  but sadly the soundtrack is so difficult to find.
8.  Underworld franchise.  Now this franchise is a hardcore vampire movie franchise.  Action,  romance,  interesting plotlines...what's not to love about this series?  What more could you want?  *Clips of Selene are seen*  Kate Beckinsale!  *goes into a dreamy trance-like state as the song Dream Weaver plays like in Wayne's World*,  she will be mine -  oh yes,  she will be mine. *snaps out of it*  Oops, sorry.   This franchise has some epic tunes on the soundtrack including my personal favorite one -  Deathclub by William Control.  *sings*  The singers crying,  we're dressed like fame.  The shame of knowing the guilty,  the killer instinct to play this game -  I know we're nothing but filthy.  You're in the deathclub,  melt so strange -  you're in the deathclub,  melt so strange.  We're in the deathclub, all free to sin away,  take your own life -  membership is pain.   We're in the deathclub, all free to sin away,  take your own life - silent, damned and strange.  Mindless follow the velvet tears,  the silent picture is perfect,  the arcitects of our flaws and fears,  I know we're nothing but servants.   You're in the deathclub,  melt so strange -  you're in the deathclub,  melt so strange.  We're in the deathclub, all free to sin away,  take your own life -  membership is pain.   We're in the deathclub, all free to sin away,  take your own life - silent, damned and strange.    Take away the fear and i'll follow,  take me half alive,   i'm not running scared tomorrow -  oh i'll survive.
9.  Blade franchise.  Speaking of badass vampire movies,  say hello to Blade.   Wesley Snipes kicks ass in these movies and the vampires themselves are wicked awesome.  If you haven't watched Blade already,  you should because it is that awesome.
10.  Vamp.  I gotta say this is a very unique vampire movie as it's probably one of the first to have the location for the vampire's lair be in a nightclub,  and what makes it even more unique is the presence of Grace Jones as Katrina the head vampire.  And my god is she awesome!  I love that crazy seduction dance she does and the zebra-like makeup she wears,  it's like she's a live-action version of Zecora except as a vampire.
11.   Interview With A Vampire.  Do I need to explain why this movie deserves to be on here?  Of course not.
12.  Queen Of The Damned.  I feel that this movie gets poorly treated by fans of the books and by fans of Interview and also by critics,  but I seriously enjoyed it.  It was awesome!  Aaliyah was just so alluring and deadly as Akasha,  and the soundtrack is beyond fantastic -  of course the two best songs on it are Forsaken and of course System.   *sings* You fell away,  what more can I say.  The feeling's evolved,  I won't let it out,  I can't replace -  your screaming face,   feeling the sickness inside.  WHY WON'T YOU DIEEEEE?  YOUR BLOOD IN MINE.  WE'LL BE FINE!  THEN YOUR BODY WILL BE MINEEEE! So many words,  can't describe my fate -  the feelings evolved,  so soon to break out,   I  can't relate to a happy state -  feeling the blood run in inside.  WHY WON'T YOU DIEEEEE?  YOUR BLOOD IN MINE.  WE'LL BE FINE!  THEN YOUR BODY WILL BE MINEEEE!  Why is everything so f***ing hard for me?  Keep me down to what you think I should be.   Must you tempt me and provoke the ministry?   Keep on trying i'm not done so easily (I WILL NOT DIEEEEE!).
13.  The Hunger.   This is the second -  maybe the third movie that has an aging vampire in it.  And more than that,  it has David Bowie in it - yep,  Jareth is in this -  and he's a vampire.
14. Monster Squad.  Holy crap is this movie epic or what?  It's not only got the most iconic vampire of all in it,  but it also has a werewolf, Frankenstein,  the creature from the black lagoon,  and the mummy -  it's a Monster Mash!  This movie is awesome.  If you haven't watched it yet,  you should.
15.  Hotel Transylvania.  Yep,  it's another monster mash.  What can I say?  I LOVE this movie.  What's this? An Adam Sandler movie that is actually entertaining?  Nope,  your eyes are not playing mind tricks on you -  this movie even though Sandler is it -  is actually entertaining and charming.   Plus Sandler's Dracula accent is actually pretty good,  just like with Russell Brand as the voice of Doctor Nefario -  I couldn't even tell it was him.  I LOVE Mavis and Jonathan's relationship and I LOVE all the crazy monsters that reside in the hotel.   Also the jab at a certain tween vampire franchise was very well executed.
16.  Shadow Of The Vampire.  Not only is this movie a sophisticated take on the vampire genre,  but also a clever movie about the making of a movie.  Behind the scenes stuff always fascinates me,  learning about how the movies are made always is an intriguing experience and this movie shows it.   I love that in the movie itself Max Schreck who plays Nosferatu in the movie within-a-movie is actually a real vampire.  Plus,  Willem Dafoe is wonderful in the role.
17.  Van Helsing.  I have a huge spot in my heart for this movie,  because not only is it a good monster mash movie - but a good action/adventure movie as well,  I love the creature designs and the transformation scenes -  and also the chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale is extremely well done,  I love how they play off eachother in the movie.   Plus Carl is an adorable and funny sidekick,  not to mention that Dracula's brides are EXTREMELY sexy -  almost as sexy as the brides from Coppola's version of Dracula and the ones from Dracula: Dead And Loving It.   I also love all the awesome weapons and gadgets Van Helsing has,  like his crossbow and his shurikens.    This movie has a bad reputation but yet - I don't think it deserves that reputation at all.
18.  Suck.  No,  i'm not insulting my viewers or vampire movies in general  -  that's really the title of this movie.  This movie is another really interesting take on vampires,   Danny Smith who played Merton on Big Wolf On Campus is in this movie as is rock legend Iggy Pop, Malcolm "Alex DeLarge" McDowell,  and Alice freaking Cooper.  Alice Cooper? *goes down on his knees and bows up and down*  I'm not worthy,  i'm not worthy,  i'm not worthy!  Hey! I'm free as to make as many Wayne's World references as I like.   One little touch I like about Alice's appearance in this movie is that in one scene you can hear a snippet of his song 'I Am The Spider' from his Along Came A Spider.
19.  Love At First Bite.  I love this movie for all the same reasons I love Dracula: Dead And Loving It.
20.  Fright Night 2.  This movie is a very underrated sequel to an awesome vampire flick,  and with just as much goodness as the first -  we get the returning cast back -  save for Evil Ed and Jerry Dandridge,  and while it doesn't have Jerry in it since Jerry was defeated at the end of the first one -  it has something even better -  his equally as seductive sister Regine.   Plus the mental patient in the movie sounds a lot like Casey Kasem aka the original voice of Shaggy.  Plus,  there's a really awesome cover of the Come To Me song at the end as well.
21.  My Best Friend Is A Vampire.  Teen monster comedies are definitely a type of movie i'd like to see make a return someday,  because if movies like this and Once Bitten are anything to go by -  I think there's a lot of potential in teen monster comedies.
22. 30 Days Of Night.  Holy crap is this movie intense or what?  I was at the edge of my seat watching this.  It was just that good!
23.  Nadja.  From the director of Trance/The Eternal/Kiss Of The Mummy comes this movie,  and it's real interesting one - I like the take on vampirism in it.
24.  Dark Shadows 2012.  You know how much I love Tim Burton,  his movies are amazing and creative.  And it is my personal opinion that this movie is one of his best yet.  Almost up there with Sleepy Hollow and Beetlejuice.  A big highlight for me is Johnny Depp as Barnabas,  and also the light-hearted comedic spin on the source material.
25.  Innocent Blood.  As you probably know by now,  John Landis is my alltime favorite movie director.  Me and :iconnikon-ninja: both love Animal House and The Blues Brothers,  and I also love Three Amigos,  Coming To America,  Oscar,  Trading Places,  and of course An American Werewolf In London.  This movie is his second go at horror/comedy hybrids and it is very underrated.  I like the black comedy used a lot in this movie.
26.  Martin.  Now this movie isn't exactly about vampires but rather a teenager who seems to think he is on and has a blood based obsession/fixation,  nonetheless it is very fascinating and interesting.  Also, I think that Dexter Morgan would definitely like this movie, heh heh.
27.  Sundown: Vampire In Retreat.  A long while ago back on my old account I did a story about Bruce Campbell becoming a vampire, and now I amazed to find out that in one of his movies he DID become a vampire.   Yes,  Bruce Campbell becomes a vampire in this movie and no - you're not dreaming.
28.  Vampire In Brooklyn.  Another underrated horror/comedy hybrid,  this time starring the one and only Eddie Murphy,  not only as the lead character but also playing multiple characters.   This movie has a lot of things I like about horror/comedy hybrids in it,  not to mention Eddie Murphy actually looks pretty cool as Maximillian.  Scratch that,  he looks badass! Eddie himself may not have liked it, but I think he looked awesome!  If you like your vampires with an urban flavor to them,  check this one out.
